Organelles within the cell
Nucleus – Contains genes and controls cellular activity
Ribosomes – Sites of protein synthesis
Endoplasmic Reticulum – Contributes to the mechanical support and distribution of cytoplasm, intercellular exchange of materials within the cytoplasm, provides a surface area for chemical reactions
Golgi complex – Packages synthesised proteins for secretion in conjunction with Endoplasmic Reticulum, forms lysosomes, secretes lipids, synthesizes carbohydrates
Mitochondria – Sites where production of ATP takes place
Lysosomes – Digests substances and foreign microbes
Peroxisomes – Contains several enzymes related to hydrogen peroxide metabolism
Microfilaments and Microtubules – Form part of the cytoskeleton
Centrioles – Help organise mitotic spindle during cell division
Flagella and Cilia – Allow for movement of the cell, or of particles trapped within mucus on the cell surface
