Head Injury (Responder) Scenario

You’re on your way to work when you arrive at an estate that’s completely gridlocked with traffic. After sitting still for a while, you notice some commotion in the distance and decide to step out of your car to investigate. On the roadside, you spot a young boy surrounded by a small crowd. A bicycle lies nearby, and he’s wearing a cycle helmet. Someone recognises you as a local community first responder and calls you over to help.

Bystanders explain that the patient is an 8-year-old boy who had been riding down a hill at high speed. He shot out of a junction, crossed the road, struck the kerb, and was thrown over the handlebars—colliding head-first with a brick wall. He wasn’t hit by a car, but several nearby drivers witnessed the incident. Witnesses state that he briefly lost consciousness but came around within a minute of the crash. He now appears quite dazed. The scene is safe.
