Limb Trauma

The limbs of the body contain numerous tissues, bones, and blood vessels, all of which can be significantly disrupted through trauma (JRCALC 2019, Willis & Dalrymple 2020, CoP & AAOS 2013). Multiple complications can arise where the clinician will need to identify and manage potential life-threatening deficits, limb compromising fractures, and life changing injuries. Where a patient is in a polytrauma situation, the clinician will also have to consider what are the most life-threatening injuries and deficits that require treating first along the primary survey. In this section we’ll review limb trauma and what treatment can be given. (JRCALC 2019, Willis & Dalrymple 2020, CoP & AAOS 2013, Halliwell et al 2013).
